Complete Guide to Building an Adirondack Chair

Required Materials:

  • Wood: Cedar, pine, or teak is recommended. You will need the following pieces:

    • 5 boards of 6 ft x 6 in x 1 in (1.90m x 15cm x 2cm)
    • 3 boards of 6 ft x 4 in x 1 in (1.80m x 10cm x 2cm)
    • 1 board of 6 ft x 2 in x 1 in (1.80m x 5cm x 2cm)
  • Screws: Use stainless steel or galvanized screws for weather resistance.

    • 1.5-inch screws (4cm)
    • 2.5-inch screws (6cm)
  • Tools:

    • Circular saw or jigsaw

    • 2 supports of 18 in x 2 in x 1 in (45cm x 5cm x 2cm)
  • Front Legs:

    • 2 boards of 18 in x 4 in x 1 in (45cm x 10cm x 2cm)
  • Rear Legs:

    • 2 boards of 35.5 in x 4 in x 1 in (90cm x 10cm x 2cm) (cut at a 20-degree angle at the top)
  • Back Support:

    • 1 board of 20 in x 4 in x 1 in (50cm x 10cm x 2cm)

3. Assembling the Base

  • Attach the Rear Legs:

    • Screw the rear legs to the arm supports, forming a roughly 20-degree angle.
  • Attach the Front Legs:

    • Screw the front legs to the arm supports, ensuring they are level.

4. Assembling the Seat

  • Attach the Seat Slats:
    • Place the 3 seat slats (21.5 in) on the leg structure and secure them with screws.
